The history of Barimueble

How our dream came about

My husband, Pascual, and I founded Barimueble back in the 1980s with great enthusiasm and, above all, a work ethic that knew no bounds. It all began almost unexpectedly; he was a kitchen furniture distributor and had a small loft space for his office in Las Fontetas (Cerdanyola).

When he told me he’d thought of his brothers to run the showroom downstairs, I felt that this was our moment to build something of our own, side by side. I asked him to give me the chance to run it myself, because my head was full of ideas and I needed to pour all my energy into a project that belonged to both of us. So, amidst a few minor squabbles—because back then it wasn’t so common for a woman to be in charge—we threw ourselves into the adventure with the occasional furniture.

I have very fond memories of our early days, including anecdotes like the one about that sales representative who kept asking me, “How’s it going?”, and I would politely reply, “Very well”, without realising that “How’s it going” was simply the name of the brand he’d come to sell.

The origin of the name

We came up with the name Barimueble together, thinking about it day and night, looking for something that made sense. As we were based near Baricentro and our business was in furniture, the combination just fell into place and seemed perfect to us.

Those were times of tremendous effort; we’d leave at seven in the morning, close at midnight, and sometimes it would be four in the morning and we’d still be talking about our projects.

I remember that when we bought the 1,000-square-metre premises in Baricentro, at first we were scared and thought about backing out because of the risk, but the faith we had and Pascual’s integrity with the manufacturers opened every door for us.

Our philosophy: Sell with passion

I’ve always believed that the gift of selling is something you’re born with, and for me, there’s no greater satisfaction than seeing a happy customer. I still remember one of my first big sales: a whole flat for a gentleman from out of town, and even a couple of pieces of furniture for his flat in Baqueira; he told me I could sell even the roots of a tree, and that gave me a confidence I’ve never lost.

For us, every person who walks through the door is a gift and someone we must look after to the very best of our ability, because it is thanks to them that we have built what we are today.

Unlike large companies, which can sometimes be rather cold in their approach, at Barimueble we go out of our way to ensure that every family who visits us feels listened to and looked after.

A story of hard work and family legacy

We have gone through some very difficult times, such as the great crisis of 2008, but we have always come through them by working side by side and with unshakeable faith.

Today, what brings me the greatest joy and the deepest sense of fulfilment is seeing that my children and grandchildren are still here, following in the footsteps that their grandfather and I first set out on.

I am deeply grateful to all of you who have taken the time to read our story and to those who, for decades, have trusted us to furnish your homes.
