My husband, Pascual, and I founded Barimueble back in the 1980s with great enthusiasm and, above all, a work ethic that knew no bounds. It all began almost unexpectedly; he was a kitchen furniture distributor and had a small loft space for his office in Las Fontetas (Cerdanyola).
When he told me he’d thought of his brothers to run the showroom downstairs, I felt that this was our moment to build something of our own, side by side. I asked him to give me the chance to run it myself, because my head was full of ideas and I needed to pour all my energy into a project that belonged to both of us. So, amidst a few minor squabbles—because back then it wasn’t so common for a woman to be in charge—we threw ourselves into the adventure with the occasional furniture.
I have very fond memories of our early days, including anecdotes like the one about that sales representative who kept asking me, “How’s it going?”, and I would politely reply, “Very well”, without realising that “How’s it going” was simply the name of the brand he’d come to sell.
